I finally saw the movie "Hunger Games" last night, after reading the book about four months ago. I loved the book and read the whole trilogy in a matter of days! I'm not sure what everyone else thinks, but the first book "Hunger Games" is my favourite. This post is for my movie companions, as I promised I would post my comparison (Book vs Movie)!
In the book series, I was definitely for Gale throughout the series. After seeing the movie, I have to say that "Josh Hutcherson", who portrayed Peeta in the movie, switched my alliance. I think he did a great job and really brought this character to life for me. I also thought that Woody Harrelson stole the show as "Haymitch", fantastic job re-creating this character. Lenny Kravitz was great as "Cinna" too.
I had high expectations for the movie and had heard great reviews saying if you had read the book, you would like the movie. I did! They did a good job sticking to the story, and did not change much. I wonder if anyone noticed that the "MockingJay Pin" was not from her sister in the book but from another character (who did not figure in the movie at all). They also did not really explain the whole "Bread" story as much as I thought they would. This was a "game-changer" for Katniss in her life, and I thought it was underplayed.
The socio-political themes of the book were very well portrayed in the movie. The difference between the "Capitol" and the "Districts" was striking and impactful. Overall for the whole intricacy of the book, I think the movie did the book justice and brought the post-apocalyptic world to life.
I am already looking forward to the next movie "Catching Fire"!
