My Korean Deli

No votes, so I chose myself ... My Korean Deli by Ben Ryder Howe -

First off, thanks to Laura for suggesting this book, I enjoyed it!   An interesting account of a young couple's adventure in "Risking It All for a Convenience Store".   This is set in Brooklyn ... can you imagine even considering buying a "deli" in New York?!!   Wow, it was full of funny stories, interesting characters and moments when you are just shaking your head and saying "what are you thinking!!"

This book gives me new appreciation for the many convenience store owners out there, the next time I go in one, I will definitely be looking at it with different eyes.   And if I do happen to go to New York and stumble upon a convenience store in Brooklyn, it will definitely make me think of this story.

It also gives a glimpse into the lives of newer immigrants struggling to make a living in the USA, and how they cope with new challenges and living circumstances so different from what they came from.  (and the challenges of living with your relatives ... especially if they are from a different culture than your own)

I enjoyed the characters in this book and will look to see if Ben writes another book, and maybe even look up some of his articles as well.

On to the next book ... The Wolf Gift ... Anne Rice - and yes, I have a diverse interest in books !   Please send me ideas to add to my reading list.

Enjoy your weekend!
